A Look At Our PastA visit to the Stoughton and District museum is a must. Over 2500 artefacts are yours for the viewing, from historical photographs to children's toys. There are theme displays including an early-day kitchen, front room and bedroom. If you are lucky, you may even arrive on time for one of our demonstration days when various pioneer activities are re-enacted. You'll want to meet Jim, crafted in the image of Jimmy Hales, who for decades owned and operated our local barber shop. His real claim to fame, though, wasn't his hair cuts but the skin lotion he sent from coast to coast in long-necked brown beer bottles for the treatment of various skin conditions. Yes! It really worked but the formula remains a mystery to this day. There's a general store, church, veterinary and medical equipment. For the curling buffs a collection of artefacts from the Curling Richardsons plus much much more. The museum is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday ad Saturday afternoons plus Thursday and Friday evenings in June, July and August. RecreationGolf: A round of golf on the 9 hole par 34 course can be a great start to your day. Nestled on a neat little triangle of land on the eastern edge of town, the natural landscape complements the irrigated fairways, grass green, man-made moguls and planted evergreens and shrubbery. It makes a picturesque stroll even if you don't golf. The year 2000 saw the addition of a feature clubhouse to the course. Taylor Park: This park was named after Wilfred C. Taylor, the town's first mayor. A quiet walk along the winding pathways of Taylor Park can be a refreshing experience. Surrounding a man-made pond, this small patch of green lies just west of Main Street. One may sit on the park benches for a while and watch the ducks, geese and muskrats. Equipped with picnic sites and a restroom, it's great for family or group gatherings. A large sand box with playground equipment is available for the children. The newly installed lighting makes for an enjoyable evening walk through the park. Future plans for the park include a band stand, fountain out in the pond and a serving booth for the large gatherings. Each new step is taken as money is provided. Stoughton Campground: The Stoughton campground is found by going south of #33 highway on Sullivan Street into the Stoughton sports grounds. The campground is equipped with sewer and water hook-ups along with 30amp power service. A restroom and shower facility is on site. A swimming pool, tennis court and ball diamond are also found in the sports grounds. A beautiful nine hole golf course with grass greens and irrigated fairways is just a mile from the campground. Groceries, gasoline, propane, and a laundromat are just 5 minutes away. Information and reservations may be obtained by contacting G.W.
