Regional Infrastructure The CREDA region is fortunate to have an extensive, well-integrated infrastructure. Goods are efficiently moved throughout the region through various transportation services. Because of the Saskatchewan government's commitment to maintaining a knowledge-based, high-tech economy, most rural municipalities in the region have access to high speed Internet service. CREDA's rural residents are fortunate to enjoy the lifestyle of their small communities without the isolation that once accompanied that lifestyle. Highways The Highway 1 corridor, the province's major east-west route, is one hour north of the northern boundary of the CREDA region. Principal highways in the region include Highway 8, 9, and 47 which run north-south, and 13, 18, 33 and 47 running east-west. An extensive network of secondary highways connects the entire region. Air Service Regina Regional Airport serves the region for major passenger and freight service. A number of other, smaller airports and airstrips exist throughout the region. Services vary from uncontrolled landing strips operated by private clubs to small regional airports with remote lighting systems and NDB towers. Railways Both Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railway provide freight service at major points throughout the region. Trucking/Freight Moving/Courier A variety of trucking firms and courier service companies operate in the CREDA region. Bus Service STC provides inter-community passenger and freight service to the City of Estevan. Fuller's Bus Service provides regular service to many smaller communities. Telecommunication Through contracted service providers, the SaskTel has nearly completed the installation of high speed Internet in every community in the province. In addition, a number of wireless service providers are establishing networks in the region. Utilities Throughout the CREDA region, water, sewer and waste management are provided by various municipalities, municipal partnerships such as the Red Coat Waste Resource Authority, and private contractors. Power and natural gas are supplied by SaskPower and SaskEnergy. See individual community profiles for details. |
